Sustainability

Crown Packaging has a long history of being a sustainable company, manufacturing products in a manner essential to the maintenance of a healthy business yet still meeting our need to responsibly balance social, environmental and economic interests for future generations.

We understand and are committed to the stewardship of our natural resources. We strive to fulfill our duties as good corporate citizens by operating in compliance with environmental regulations under the jurisdiction of federal, provincial and local governments. In July of 2010 Crown Packaging was certified under the FSC® – Chain of Custody and Controlled Wood Standards. These standards require that documentation be in place to track the flow of fibre from the forest through to the corrugated packaging and industrial products manufactured at our facility. Our Certification elevates Crown Packaging’s focus on environmental responsibility as well as providing a tool to communicate our sustainable practices to our customers.

Operationally, our facility is actively pursuing measures to reduce our environmental footprint through several initiatives. These initiatives have included using recycled liners and mediums where appropriate, making responsible ink supply choices, using recycled fuel oil, increasing energy efficiency and reducing waste wherever possible. Our facility supports various recycling programs; recycling 700 tonnes of OCC per month, plastic strapping and stretch wrap, office paper, toner and ink cartridges, fluorescent light tubes, used engine oil and antifreeze, computers and peripherals, batteries, metal and other scrap. We operate a fleet of delivery trucks equipped with GPS tracking units; with the goal of increasing efficiency and utilization, reducing the number of trucks on the road and allowing for superior management of our overall transportation system.

Our sustainability successes are measured in economic growth, sound environmental practices and a considerable commitment to providing our employees with a safe and healthy workplace.
