Crown Packaging is an integrated manufacturer and marketer of corrugated cartons and sheets, printed paper wraps, and wallboard tape.

We currently have an opening for a permanent, full-time Converting Production Supervisor to join our Operations team, based out of our location in Richmond, BC. This role reports directly to the Converting Superintendent.
Job responsibilities for this position:
• Actively participates in Health & Safety, including conducting safety meetings with crews, upholding safety policies and procedures, safety training, accident investigations and follow up items.
o Coordinates and directs the safety training of employees under his/her direct supervision to ensure the highest degree of safety performance, moral and attitude.
o Ensures that all personnel under his/her direct supervision are familiar with and abide by company policies, procedures, plant rules and safety regulations.
o Conducts investigations into all injuries to employees under his/her jurisdiction.
o Maintains an effective safety program and its institution, particularly as applicable to his/her area of supervision.
o Helps manage the administration and execution of all plant department safety rules, and the achievement of plant safety objectives.
• Responsible for the leadership of crews with regard to quality.
o Manufactures all products within the established quality standard.
o Ensures that all products produced and shipped meet or exceed customer specifications, make decisions on acceptability of products to hold/release.
o Ensures that established quality control procedures are being used at all times to process orders in concurrence with sales specifications.
o Is personally responsible to keep him/herself informed of special quality needs of any orders being processed on his/her shift.
o Thoroughly investigates each customer quality complaint and initiates actions to prevent a recurrence of a similar complaint. Keeps all his personnel informed of any complaints.
• Responsible for the leadership of crews with regard to waste, process efficiency and productivity.
o Proposes the development, institution and enforcement of departmental waste reduction programs.
o Constantly reviews department waste performance to ensure that lowest possible controllable waste within his/her area of jurisdiction.
o Maintains a sufficient and effective workforce to meet customer demands without necessary delays and overtime assignments.
o Measures the performance of the hourly employees under his/her direct control, using established standards and performance appraisals along with efficiency and quality reports.
o Coordinates and directs training of hourly employees under his/her control using proper job instruction methods to prepare the workers for promotion, holiday relief and volume increases.
o Constantly reviews and analyzes his/her operations for improvement in methods, personnel, machinery placement and modifications and inadequate personnel.
• Directs and redirects employee behaviors to ensure company policies, practices and procedures are followed, holding to the Collective Agreement;
• Continually follows up with members of the crew to reinforce the standards and expectations of the plant and/or shipping areas;
• Communicates regularly with personnel to maintain high level of engagement;
• Supervises vacation time and make recommendations to Management on manning levels and possible areas of improvement;
• Maintains housekeeping standards conducive to high employee morale.
• Conducts monthly crew meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements for this position:
• University degree, technical school diploma (or 5 years’ related supervisory experience).
• Beneficial to have industry experience (corrugated) or background in a manufacturing environment.
• Above average mechanical aptitude.
• Proficient when using Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Superior problem-solving skills.
• Detail oriented and has the ability to prioritizing and multi-task.
• Able to work in a group as well as individually.
• Strong work ethic, is dependable and reliable.
